Apple Cider Mills
One of the things I will most about Michigan (other than the people) is visiting these amazing apple cider mills. (Why we don't have these in Western Washington is beyond me. Isn't Washington the home of the Red Delicious? Actually, maybe we do have them, but they are too far a drive. Washington is missing out though. Michigan has a great claim to best apple state as it is better at bringing fresh apples to the people.) Every September, cider mills around the state open for fresh apple cider and fresh donuts. I must add that I'm not much of a donut person, but after trying one, I was hooked. They are not normal. They don't have grease falling off them and don't taste as sugary. I love them. I have now been to four different apple cider mills this season and I have my own opinion about which one makes the best cider and donuts. It is out of control and so much fun. I'm also a huge fan of picking apples from the acres and acres of orchards. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out.

Yum! I don't know why WA is so lame. Maybe the orchards are just all on the east side of the state. I love the picture of Stephen helping Hewitt up to pick the apple and he is squezing his face! You and Donny look like a perfect couple by the water.
We DO have apple cider mills in WA! Mom used to take us once a year. It was a bit of a drive, but you know my mom, when she finds something she likes she will go to the ends of the earth to get whatever it is!
Erika, don't tell me you don't remember the apple cider mill!
My husband would be so jealous! He grew up in Franklin, Michigan and went the Cider Mill there and loves, loves, loves it!! He dreams about the donuts!!! Enjoy it for us!! Every once in a while he tells me we should just go for a weekend so that we can go to the cider mill!! :)
There were so many great orchards in Syracuse. I really miss that. And I used to go to cider mills with my family in California and always loved it.
And in defense of Washington, we have been to a few fun apple orchards in eastern Washington, outside of Spokane. And there were definitely lots of apples in Wenatchee! You just can't have EVERY fun thing in western WA... :)
Sound yummy and fun and did I mention YUMMY? I am a big fan of donuts and cider! I think you just gave me an idea for a snack. Miss you guys here. You can come back. We have tasty cakes!
